Wonderful Freebie
Head over to Homeschool Freebie of the Day and pick up your copy of a great resource on teaching States and their postal codes. I remember when I was in school I had to learn all the States, their capitals and where they were located. I had to do this with all the countries also in a later class.

Freebies
I love freebies if you can't tell and I got some great links in my email to day that I had to share.
Old Schoolhouse magazine has freebies every week. You can find this weeks at the link. I signed up for the free dvd for America, the Story of US. I will be using it this fall. She has some other interesting ones also.
Homeschool Freebie of the day has a great freebie of a Banned golden book. It was banned because it was considered to dangerous for the target group. Definately need adult supervision with this one. Sign up for your one weekly newletter that tells all the great offers this wonderful site offers everyday.

A little frustrated.
I am a little frustrated with my youngest today. I had quite a long talk with her about her responsiblities around the house yesterday, as a matter of fact the subject was brought up several times throughout the day as I brought up examples as they presented themselves. I asked her to do a certain chore as I left for work last night and I had told her I wanted her to do this chore earlier in the day before she went to bed. When I got home from work the chore was still not done. She is 14 and quite capable to do what I had asked her to do. So I guess that she will not be going skating with her friends tonight, will not be going online for personal use today and not watching tv tonight. Sigh. I hate when my children force my hand and need to be disciplined.
I have several homeschooling links to share with you today.
Currclick's freebie is quite an extensive unit study on the Human body. You may have gotten this if you ordered her bargain last week in the link I posted but if not here is a chance to get a really great unit study . The link is here.
Becky over at Homeschooling at Hospitality Lane posted a great link for vocabulary. It can be found here. Check out Becky's blog too.
Hannah is reading Treasure Island so I found this link very interesting. I got it from Home school freebie of the day newsletter. The direct link is here. The homeschool freebie are several links for audio version of old radio shows , a pdf of the book and the unit study. While you are there why not sign up for their newsletter.
If your child is an audio learning your may be interested in some link for audio books. Florida has a program called Lit2go. Here you will find and abundance of poems and books just waiting for you to download and listen. It gives you listings for grade and reading level. The link is here
LearnOutLoud.com has just recently added a listing of over 1000 books from Librivox.org. Librivox records public domain books and has them available for download. These are done by volunteers so the quality varies but this list will give you plenty to sift through. The link is here.
I have other links that I will list in another post but these should get you started.

Holidays
Now that he holidays are upon us I have noticed that more and more of the emails I have been getting are dealing with different crafts, food, decorating ideas to do with each of the holidays.
One site I try to visit everyday I have already listed here but it never hurts to plug a good site. Homeschool Freebie of the day has a great freebie today. It is a pdf e- book of what other homeschool families do for the holidays. The direct link is here.
When my two older kids were younger I made this game. They spent hours playing this game and became quite good at it. We used marbles for the tokens that you move.
Yesterday was the anniversary of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty. Here is a paper craft you can print out and glue together to make your own Statue.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Rainy Days
It is dark now when I drive home at 6:30 a.m. from work. This morning it was raining and the glare was pretty bad in places tha I had a hard time seeing where the lanes were. I dislike when that happens. I really don't like driving home in the dark when it is suppose to be light ( according to my body clock anyway). Sunday is the time change don't forget to fall back an hour.
Got this in my email today Car schooling. This is a great resource whenyou are always running around to all those lessons, clubs and whatever (I use to joke with my hubby that I don't know why it is called homeschooling as we were always in the van, times have changed though since I only have one I don't do as much running around but still do a good bit.)

What a weekend
This weekend was a tiring weekend emotional and physically. My Husband was home which was a good thing. We spent some good quality time together. We have decided to do a Bible study together on 1 Corinthians. will post more on that in later posts. My youngest daughter had a bit of a sore throat over the weekend. She gets them quite often but they won't take out her tonsils because she doesn't get strep throat enough during the year so she has to suffer through sore throat after sore throat.
Then my oldest daughters boyfriend of two years broke up with her. She didn't see it coming and was devasted. This is her first boyfriend so it was really hard (not that every break up isn't hard). I was trying to console her but I kept thinking of all the cliche things that people say and I didn't want to say any of those things because they really don't lessen the pain so I just sat and listened. I will just pray and be there for her.
The homeschool freebie tha I found today is this site. It is a site that takes you through the process of building a castle and makes a great unit for studying middle ages.

Family time and holidays
Since yesterday was Labor Day I got to thinking about family. We have certain traditions in our family. On New Years day we watch the Mummer's Parade ( this is a Pennsylvania thing). On Memorial day and Labor day we have a cookout. On Thanksgiving my husband whole side of the family gets together and we celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas at the same time. Around Christmas we go chop down a tree, eat chili , decorate the tree and then watch "It's a Wonderful Life". We mentioned to the kids that this year we had an artificial tree and it caused a near riot. It was changing the tradition. Change is hard after you have done something the same way for years. But Change can be good also like when you go on a diet or start to eat healthier, quit smoking or other bad habits. Question why you do certain things a certain way. I read a story once about a lady who when she made ham for Christmas always cut off the two ends. When her children asked her why she did it that way she said because that was how her mother did it. When the children asked their grandmother why she did it that why she said because she had to to fit it in the pan. lol
Traditions are going to change as you life changes but the love you have for you family will only grow stronger.
Not in to much pain today but I did overdo it a bit yesterday. We try to have the ladies I work with over on holidays so that they have a nice holiday so I had to work a double shift yesterday and my arm is not use to it. Oh well slowly but surely hopefully it will get better.
My homeschool link for today is Homeschool Freebie of the day. These are the same people that do the Homeschool Radio show. They post a really neat freebie every week day. Today was a audio about Davy Crockett with a listening guide. Also if you sign up for their newsletter you get an extra freebie everyweek.
The pictures below are of my daughters while they are waiting for the burgers to grill.
