TV Tuesday

I have been enjoying this Series



I just finished watching  Season 1 on DVD and have been watching Season 4 on Sci Fi .  It's a quirky little series about a town that is really a government facility where they have all the smartest scientist working on government projects.  Like any good Sci Fi show things don't always turn out right.  Season 1  seems a tad more violent than the seasons that follow (all of it are the results of experiments gone awry) .

Movie Monday

This past Week the girls and I went to see



Disney's The Socerer's Apprentice. 

It was very good.  Lots of action and humor.  Nicholas Cage did a good job as the mentor (you never know with his movies).

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief

They took quite a bit of liberty from the books but It was a good movie.  I still liked the book better.

Homeschool Thursday

Hannah and I will be starting her 10th grade on Monday.  Our main Curriculum is Far Above Rubies with a little bit of Old Fashioned Education and Ambleside Online 

A Good Source for History Mini Studies is Learning through history.  A Great source for week to two week mini units.  Can be expanded upon

Scholastic has some interesting history sleuthing games.

Movie Monday!!

The girls and I went to see



This movie is rated PG 13 and it definitely should be.  It was funny and we did laugh out loud alot.  But there was language and alot of sexual innuendo.  We went to see the movie at our local bargain theater and it stopped three times so we had to wait for them to fix it.  If that would have happened at the first run theater I would have demanded a refund but since I only paid $2 we just let it go.   


Over the Weekend, My husband and I watched
  

Dance, Girl, Dance starring Maureen O'Hara and Lucille Ball.  It sure was different seeing Lucy in this kind of role.  She played a golddigger.  Sometimes the music tried to make this film lighthearted but it was definitely a drama through and through.   It deals with burlesque dancing so may need to explain to children but really nothing risque in the movie.  Definitely worth watching if you can catch on Turner Movie classics.

Homeschool Thursday

I got a great email today from Knowledge Quest .  In it was an Article that listed 5 must have no cost resources for homschooling.  I use or have used all of these resources and highly recommend them.  Here is the link to the article


Classics for Kids is a great resource to teach your kids about classical music.  If you sign up for the newsletter they send you info on what the shows are for the current month and the next.  They also have a activity sheet for the children to do.  My 15 year old loves these shows even though I believe they are intended for yournger children.  But the way I look at it if she is listening to classical music it can't be bad.

I know some people have started school already.  We are aiming for August 30th.  Hope everyone has a great year!!

Gilmore Girls Season 3 may contain spoilers

The Gilmore Girls season 3



This season seemed to be a bit darker that the last two.  It was a bit more serious, although the quirky characters from Stars Hollow still had their moments. 


this is my least favorite season as it mostly revolves around Rory getting together with Jess.  I really liked Dean so much better than Jess but It would have to be a tie between Jess and Logan about who I disliked more as a boyfriend for Rory.  I did warm up to Logan a bit toward the end of the series but Dean will always be my favorite.

Two Movies both I felt Blah About

Both of these movies I really was excited to see as they seemed really good in previews.  Both of them I would give a 2.5 out 5 stars.  They really had the potential but they just fell flat for me. 

The first movie I got from Netflix:  Leap Year

 

The two of the characters live together.  I think there might have been a few curse words.  Not many.  I had the movie figured from the very beginning.  Nothing new in the romantic comedy genre.

The second movie is   Knight and Day.  I saw this at our local $2 theater. 



This starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.  I am not a huge Tom Cruise fan but I thought this looked fun.  It was Blah.  It had such potential but just fell flat.  The editing was horrible and you could tell when they used Green Screen.  The best part of the whole movie was the very end.  If the whole movie would have been like that it would have been great.  There were a few curse words including the F word which I was quite taken aback by.

Language Warmups

I am finalizing my plan for Hannah's School year. 

Here are some of the sites that I plan on using for Language arts.

Language arts Warmups takes a different theme each week and gives you exercises that deal with that theme.

Dailygammar.com is just that short lessons on grammar that you do every day.  I usually have my children do two a day as they are so short.

I will combining these two sites with a daily vocabulary exercise plus a Speech and Literature course that Hannah will be taking at our Homeschool Group.  She will studying the Lord of the Rings.

TV Tuesday - My Three Sons

I have been DVRing episodes of this classic tv show on a local station that show alot of the older shows.  Only problem is that they only show about 4 episodes on Saturday.    

Since my hubby works long hours and gets up early (usually between 1-3) and gets home late (5-6)  we eat supper then like to relax by watching one of theses and then he goes to sleep.  So we an extra day.

It's nice to just watch the Douglass family as that time was a much simpler time. 

Unfortunately they have only released only the first 2 seasons of this on dvd (it was on for 12 years). 

In the first seasons William Frawley was Bub, Steve's Father-in-law (William Frawley was Fred Mertz on I Love Lucy)  and the had Mike the oldest son who seems to disappear later (kinda like the Cunninghams oldest son did from Happy Days)

I will probably be adding these to our dvd collection after we get all the episodes to other series (maybe by then more seasons will be available)

On the day that we don't watch My Three Sons we have started watching this

Movie Monday- Singing In The Rain

My husband and I watched this movie this last week.  It is one of the musical classics from the Golden age of Movie Making.  They just don't make movies like this any more.
